Oh, I’ve certainly fallen in love with you.
If a boyfriend wasn’t enough, my internet voyeurism shopping has put me in big trouble. I’ve fallen upon these: Ray-Ban Unisex RB2132 in Red and Havana Frame, with brown lenses. I still couldn’t decide between a classic brown or the retro red; these were possibly made for me. On internet, they are around 85$ US which I find is a reasonable price for designer frames. And I just learned this weekend that I was going to spend a week in Cuba during my march break! So it is with great evidence that I just need these shades.
Before Robert Pattinson ever wore these, I think they weren’t as popular. But the fact that they seem to fit everyone so well and that they’re unisex, well that does it for me. My personal style is somewhere between practical and fashionable, but usually with a bit of individuality. And these fit my standards. I want them, I need them.
Doodles and whatnot
I woke up with a nasty headache this morning, so I didn’t feel like writing too much. And then I had this idea.
I like art, like the drawings and paintings. I haven’t been into art enough of a long time to be able to write a thorough review on what I like about a specific artist or not, but I know that I particularly like Van Gogh. Anyway, I don’t want to talk about Van Gogh. I want to focus on David Shrigley. His “art” is not what most would call art. Actually, it looks like your 5 year old cousin could have done it. One of his collage consists of cut up silhouettes of horses… how original is that? However, I fell in love with his doodles. They sorta make me think of Cyanide and Happiness, but without the comic aspect and more child-like. Shrigley’s art is definitely tainted with humor and sarcasm. See for yourselves.
Starbucks Vs. Second Cup
Ah, the great coffee question to any Canadian that may enjoy both. I don’t know if they offer Second Cup in the United-States. Basically, they offer the same services and coffee, but Starbucks has more hype and therefore wins more people over around here. But does it really deserve that much popularity? If you don’t feel like reading all this blabla, skip down to the last paragraph.
- Around 600,o00 people live in my town. We currently have 5 Starbucks and 4 Second Cups (right now I’m trying to imagine how many Starbucks can be found in Manhattan and I find my numbers somewhat laughable). So, Starbucks has more franchises but in my opinion, Second Cup has more visibility because of where most of them are. I mostly go to 2 Starbucks and 2 Second Cups. Both of the Starbucks have miserable parking space; sometimes I have to park at the mall across the street. Second Cup does not have this problem, both of them are in malls and therefore offer great parking space. (SB 1pts / SC 1pts)
- Enough about the franchises, what about the coffee? In my opinion, Starbucks wins this one but only on taste because these coffees don’t come cheap. Now you ask “Who cares about the prices when you can enjoy a wonderful Caramel Macchiato?!” (also one of my favorites). The marginal benefit is for you to choose. Second Cup on the other hand, seems to offer cheaper knock-offs of what Starbucks offers, but which came first? I don’t know/care. The real question is who does it better? Starbucks. Second Cup also offers other varieties such as tea in their franchises, which is a nice alternative if you’re having a caffeine overload or you just decided to change your routine. (SB 2pts / SC 1pts)
- Sometimes, you know you’re going to stay more than a few minutes or you know you’re going to have the munchies later on. So you have to grab something to eat too. Second Cup has to win this one. It offers a broader spectrum of delicacies and are often tastier. They also make bagels, so it’s great for a breakfast on the go. Starbucks lacks in this area. Either what they offer doesn’t seem good or they sold out an hour ago. (SB 0pts / SC 1pts)
- What’s a nice coffee if you can’t enjoy internet from your laptop? Both of these coffee franchises offer 2 hours of free service but Second Cup wins this one hands down. You’re surfing on the web in a few clicks. Now, has anyone ever tried to get on internet from a Starbucks? If they wanted to make it more complicated, I don’t think they could. I’d explain the process but it’s too long and worthless. (SB 0pts / SC 1pts)
It all comes down to whatever you like better. Most of the time, I’m glad I take a Starbucks on the go because it’s always packed. Second Cup is the winning choice if you’re looking to study in a quieter atmosphere, but it all really depends at what time you’re going. From my little point system, I accorded 3 to Starbucks and 4 to Second Cup. I could have included Tim Hortons or Van Houtte, but SB and SC are the biggest players in terms of coffee. When the semester will kick off (in exactly huit dodos), I’ll do another review on which one has the best brew. With 2 milks and one sugar of course.
Introduction to the person writing whatever you’re reading
Hopefully, I haven’t lost your interest yet. It’s only been 10 words (12 including *10* and *words*). Currently I’m enjoying my winter break that I spent mostly sleeping, getting back the lost hours spent on term papers and final exams. Sleeping is also an exquisite activity when living in a climate like mine. Accuweather currently posts a RealFeel of -17°C and outside, roughly 3 feet of snow cover the streets.
I’m also considered as a caucasian/aboriginal female nearing her 20′s, happily in a relationship. I’m studying in what could be called a college about to obtain a diploma in social sciences (so interesting I know). In a year, I will be entering university, preferably in a Business degree and I cannot wait. This will all mean: moving out, moving in, new stuff. I believe stuff is the right word as I don’t know what waits ahead of me, it’s pretty vague.
I’m interested in politics, law, arts, economics, sports, blogs, books, movies, travel, fashion, food. So if I were you I’d expect coverage on a few of those subjects. I believe this is the basis you must know about me, for the moment.
PS: I’m also an avid coffee drinker.
